Google and Huawei unite to promote mobile virtual reality
The phones of the Chinese company will work with DayDream VR
Google accelerated the pace of its virtual reality career this week after announcing a new partnership with Huawei at the CES in Las Vegas (United States), which will allow the Asian company to enjoy the hardware of the multinational of Mountain View.
Chinese telco Huawei advanced this week that two of its smartphones will soon work with Daydream View, a virtual reality device launched last year by Google.
Meanwhile, Taiwanese manufacturer AsusTek Computer Inc. announced that its ZenFone AR will support both Daydream software and Google's Tango software for augmented reality in which computer-generated content overlays the real world.
However, Google still has a lot to do to bring its technology to the masses, says analyst Jan Dawson of Jackdaw Research, pointing out that Samsung, the largest manufacturer of Android, has not yet joined Google.
As the growth in the global smart phone market shows signs of slowing down, some manufacturers are expressing optimism that this new technology will make the smartphone trade stand out.
"This is the next wave of technology that will really excite consumers with smartphones," explains Erik Hermanson, head of mobile product marketing at Asus.
However, consumer interest in technology remains virtually non-existent. Applications are expected to stimulate demand, but until Google technology is available in a wider range of phones, it will be difficult to persuade developers to build for the platform, experts point out.
