A helmet to train the brain and concentration
A helmet to train the brain and concentration
The Spanish device Elevvo is able to optimize attention and memory up to 15% after a minimum of eight sessions
Elevvo's neurotechnology is a pioneer in the world and is designed to optimize the functioning of brain areas related to cognitive performance. It allows inducing neuroplastic changes that mediate cognitive abilities and helps to improve problems such as depression, attention deficit and Alzheimer's.
A technology developed as a result of six years of research and work by BitBrain Technologies, in collaboration with the University of Zaragoza, the Institute of Health Sciences of Aragon and other international entities.
Elevvo is based on an innovative model of personalized "neurofeedback" that adapts in an individualized way to the physiology, state and evolution of the brain activity of each user throughout the interventions. The technology is designed to induce neuroplastic changes through learning in the desynchronization of individual alpha rhythms in the parieto-occipital brain area. The cognitive improvement is the result of these neuroplastic changes in brain activity and is reflected above all in an increase in working memory, processing speed, sustained attention and concentration, and attention changes in multitasking.
Elevvo is indicated to improve basic functions such as working memory, processing speed, sustained attention and concentration and attention changes in multitasking. "Our technology goes directly to the brain and performs a guided entertainment, as if it were a game, getting to train the rhythms," says Maria Lopez, CEO of BitBrain.
How does it work?
Elevvo is aimed at health professionals, it has been designed to obtain a cognitive improvement by optimizing the functioning of brain areas related to cognitive performance.
The user must put on his head the BitBrain headset which in turn will be connected to a computer with a "software" of his own creation. When the person under analysis activates their brain, a red square opens on the computer screen that shows the "feedback". The patient should establish their own strategies to concentrate by making the brain work and that is when the red square changes color to blue. When that blue is stabilized, the objective has been achieved: activate cognitive rhythms by inducing neuroplastic changes.
"It has been proven that it produces changes in the brain, improves 20% in speed of processing, sustained attention and ability to memorize or work memory", explains López. Each brain is different and Elevvo has the ability to adapt to each of them automatically. As if it were a brain gym, the training is completely personalized, it adapts automatically to the physiology, evolution and state of each user's brain activity. The more training and more effort, the harder the improvement.
This technology will be available from January through authorized centers and one per 100,000 inhabitants will be established. Each training lasts about 20 minutes in blocks of five. The exercise is hard because of the level of concentration it demands, but the patient notices the results. There are two different types of headband, depending on their function. The first, "Elevvo Medical", intended for patients with mental disorders such as depression and attention deficit. The second, "Elevvo Wellness", for healthy patients who want to improve their cognitive capacity, aimed at well-being and personal development.
Eight sessions
The data of the evolution of each participant are stored to be studied by the experts, which allows tracking the evolution of each one. More than eight sessions will be necessary so that changes in attention and memory improvement are important (between 10% and 15% approximately). Subsequently, every so often it is advisable to re-perform a refresh session.
"These are the first diademas with dry sensors, they connect via wifi and join an amplifier, the objective in the future is to reduce prices and to be able to buy them in any technology store," says the CEO.
Health professionals who have tested the product believe that it will have a great impact on society, allowing improving the brain performance of children and adolescents in the learning period, combating the cognitive decline caused by aging and, of course, improving the quality of life of people with attention deficit and depression problems. A neurotechnological advance whose greatest novelties lie in the ability of Elevvo to adapt automatically to each brain.
