The launch of Apple's first smartphone in 2007 changed the entire industry forever


  On January 9, 2007 the charismatic Steve Jobs presented in San Francisco the first Apple smartphone, an iPhone that did not arrive in Spain but that changed the way in which the mobile sector would be understood. This device revolutionized the world of technology and made Apple the giant that it is today, reaching more than 1,000 million iPhones sold in July 2016.

Today is the day he had been waiting for two and a half years, said Jobs when he took the stage . During these months of work, Apple had been cooking a phone that, although it was not the first smartphone on the market or the first with a touch screen, it was the first to have everything in a way so accessible to the average user and with a design that attracted everyone.

  Currently 60% of Apple's income comes from the iPhone, in which in these ten years has seen a consolidation and ten generations of phones, but that has not changed anything in the essential. The device is no more than a rectangle with rounded corners, a screen that occupies the entire front and only one start button, another for the volume and the lock, as well as a non-removable battery. Nobody else in the industry has managed to vary their terminals so little by obtaining those benefits.

The iPhone 8 on the way?

Now the sector and its followers await the arrival of the iPhone 8 (it is rumored that the company skipped the 7s version to mark this anniversary or to present them at the same time). Only in 2015 were acquired more than 225 million iPhones and the question now is whether Apple will manage to maintain these sales because, although the failures in Samsung Galaxy Note 7 batteries have paved the way in the last quarter of 2016, from China arrives Huawei stomping.

Spain is a particular case, since iPhone only gets 7.9% of the market share of smartphones, according to Statista data. Of course, ours is the country of the EU where most people use their mobile phones to connect to the internet. Now Apple needs to regain its audience and leave the competition aside if it does not want to be left behind.
