Smart suitcases run out of batteries
The startup closes its business due to fear of explosions from its batteries
A lost suitcase, this was the origin of the idea that ended the birth of Bluesmart. A concept that emerged in New York with the help of Diego Sáez-Gil, Tomás Pierucci, Alejo Valenti, Martín Diz and Brian Chen. However, few flights have achieved this Argentine technology.
Saez-Gil and Pierucci started with a very successful crowdfunding campaign to create a smart suitcase that could be controlled from an app on a smartphone and charge devices with included USB ports.
An announcement that did not please the airlines especially the North American ones that blocked these devices for fear of fires on board the aircraft. However, Bluesmart was quick to publish the instructions to remove the battery from the luggage.
But this document continued without convincing the airlines and has caused the owners of Bluesmart have had to close.
The Bluesmart suitcases, both the first and the second generation, were a hit with travel enthusiasts. The two models generated four million dollars in two crowdfunding campaigns, the first in 2014 and the second in 2017, demonstrating interest in this type of accessories.
